Cam Bardell
“Understands Farming”
Cam Bardell, sales rep in the Manawatu Region for J Swap Stockfoods understands farming. That’s because he was a farmer for 23 years and knows the hard work and energy required to run a smart farming business.
Originally from Wanganui, Cam now resides in Palmerston North with his wife and 4 children. Being based in Palmerston North and covering the entire Manawatu region poses its own challenges but one that Cam is up for.
Stock feed for this region is usually delivered form either Taranaki or the Matamata bulk stores owned and operated by J Swaps. This means delivery can be anything from 24 hours to 3 days but whichever it is, Cam focuses on ensuring that the farmer knows exactly when it’s going to be.
“It’s all about communication. As long as they know when the load is being delivered then they can plan their day“. For this reason Cam insists he is always available on his mobile phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. “I can empathise with farmers because I know exactly the work pressures and time pressures that are placed on them. Communication is King“.
Cam likes to think he can take all the hard work out of getting stock food to the farm for the farmer. That’s why he encourages his clients to always ring his mobile phone. This way he can build the relationship and help the farmer with his decisions and then place the order on their behalf. Cam also texts farmers at night to notify them of their delivery the next day.
When asked what the best thing about working for Swaps was, he answers “It’s a great family based company where the money the farmers spends with us stays in the country. That’s a big thing for many people now. They give me a good deal of autonomy and know that having run my own farming business know I have a good work ethic“.
